Wandering across the shifting sands of migrating dunes, wavemusic embarks on an unprecedented journey to discover the most wondrous corners of World Music. The trip begins where everything began: in Africa. Experience fantastic artists such as Concord, Simphiwe Dana, Richard Bona and Lokua Kanza, whose musical visions transcend the borders between AfroPop, Soul and Jazz and sweep away clichéd associations of the continent.
The compilation also features representatives of the remote Cap Verde Islands – Cesaria Evora, Teofilo Chantre and Lura – and the waves bringing them (and us) to the shores of Europe. It is here that we hear the influence of the wonderful world of Portuguese Fado music, with artists including Sara Tavares taking us further afield and revealing parallels with the sounds of Latin America. Angélique Kidjos takes us back in time with the wistful ”Olofoofo”, while Jehro’s ”Rock You Tender” provides an optimistic look-ahead to the future. The compilation is a journey through different landscapes, subtly whistling and – with all the time in the world – exploring the vastness of the Namib desert featured on the cover.
