A hip-looking guy with a drink in his hand hanging out by the pool of a gorgeous little villa – what may sound and look like a cliché is reality in Palm Springs. Since the 1930s the desert oasis just outside Los Angeles has served countless Hollywood stars as a refuge from the hustle and bustle of the city. It was a popular haunt for the likes of Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner and has remained so, more recently, for Brad Pitt and his contemporaries. Their legacy is an A-list party mecca marked by a sumptuous architectural landscape that made Palm Springs the “Capital of Cool”. We found the übercool Palm Springs mood to be the ideal emotional home for wavemusic Volume 13 – where we once again put Smooth Jazz in the limelight. But time doesn’t stand still in the world of music either; this irresistible compilation includes both stars of yesteryear and young, up-and-coming artists such as American trumpet maestro David Wells and German singer/guitarist Torsten Goods, who are redefining the boundaries of the genre.
